about
The second single from Emma Anderson’s debut solo album ‘Pearlies’ is the captivating ‘Clusters’, which builds brilliantly from a low-key start into a stunning, Melody’s Echo Chamber meets Stereolab style groove.
“This is the first track I did with James [Chapman, aka Maps, producer] and the one we found our feet with,” explains Emma. “It’s the pop one on the album but although it’s upbeat, I think lyrically I think it’s quite dark.”
“It’s about some young people at a party at the end of summer, seeing some signs on a wall,” she continues as she explains the lyrics that, in a very timely fashion, refer to this time of year and the nights drawing in.
“It probably has some connection to some events that happened a few years ago. Discovering a kind of underlying threat during something that should have been quite fun.”
lyrics
And now the party’s over
The music’s at the end
The chaos of another day
Too much to comprehend
All the pretty boys, all the pretty girls
Have they lost their minds?
In the darkened rooms on the painted walls
Have they read the signs?
The never-ending saga
The story can’t be told
Before the lightning makes its mark
Can chaos be controlled?
And now the summer’s over
The nights are drawing in
The tide is turning over us
The drama will begin
Beautiful and strange, try and rearrange
How the story ends
Can it ever be that that we never see
How we make amends
All the pretty boys, all the pretty girls
Have they lost their minds?
In the darkened rooms on the painted walls
Have they read the signs?
